Depression & Anxiety
“Sometimes the worst place that you can be is in your own head”
Depression and anxiety are both very common issues, and they can present independently or simultaneously. If you are suffering from depression, you may be experiencing sadness, apathy, changes in sleep patterns and eating habits, and fatigue. These symptoms may have developed over time, or they may be linked to a negative life event. People with anxiety display excessive worry and stress for an extended period of time, and may feel restless, irritable, and experience racing or unwanted thoughts.
The first step in treating anxiety or depression is uncovering the nature of the emotional distress. You may have triggers in your life that elicit these feelings, or you may have persistent negative thoughts connected to an internalized belief. Once your symptoms are identified, we can begin treatment to reduce their severity. At Free Spirit Counseling we are trained in a number of different methods for treating anxiety and depression and we can work with you to find the best fit for your case and needs. We will also teach you effective strategies that you can implement on your own, including mindfulness practices like meditation and breathing exercises.
No matter how bad it may feel in the moment, it’s important to remember that depression and anxiety are very treatable, and with the right tools you can lessen the burden of your symptoms while treating the root of your emotional distress. Please set up an appointment with one of our trained counselors if you would like to learn more about how we can help.
“Mental pain is less dramatic than physical pain, but it is more common and also more hard to bear. The frequent attempt to conceal mental pain increases the burden: it is easier to say “My tooth is aching” than to say “My heart is broken.”
