Josselyn West, MSW, LISW
Hello, my name is Josselyn West. I am a Licensed Independent Social Worker (MSW/LISW) from Columbus, Ohio. I am a partner, a mother of a wonderful teenager, and a dog mom to two energetic fur babies. Before I entered the social work field, I was a preschool teacher who taught ages 3-5. I have a bachelor’s degree from Capital University and a master’s degree from The Ohio State University. I received my license in 2014 and have been practicing here in Columbus for 6 years.
I have experience with many different areas such as LGBTQ+, couples/relationships, Anxiety, Depression, Mood Disorders, Co-occurring disorders, and Severe and persistent mental illness. I specialize in Racial Trauma/Cultural or Racial issues and empowerment, Suicide prevention, Trauma/PTSD, Women’s empowerment/Domestic Violence, and I have extensive training with Children, Adolescents, and Families. I utilize a variety of treatment approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, behavior modification, and Parent Child Interaction Therapy. I believe in a holistic, solution focused, and client centered approach. When working with Children, Adolescents, and Families I utilize the same holistic, solution focused approach, with a family systems theory basis.
I believe that no change is comfortable or quick however through treatment there is recovery for mental illness. It is very important to me that my patients and I have a strong therapeutic alliance where they can feel safe and open in the space that we create together. I meet my patients where they are, and through empathy, strengths focus, empowerment and a strong therapeutic alliance sustainable recovery is possible.
